FAQ

If this is your first visit.

B.A.D. GYM URAWA is a bench press gym one minute from the west exit of Kita-Urawa Station. It is supervised by bench press world champion Yusuke Suzuki, twice winner of the IPF World Classic Bench Press Championships (2018, 2019). It has Eleiko IPF-certified powerlifting equipment and a studio for hire.

Q.01How much does it cost?
Monthly membership is JPY 14,300 for a Base member (JPY 13,000 before tax). Founding members - the first 30 people to join between 5 September and 31 December 2026 - pay JPY 13,200, held for as long as they stay. The joining fee is JPY 11,000 for everyone, founding members included (JPY 10,000 before tax). Annual membership is JPY 157,300 (11 months). Drop-in is JPY 3,300 for one day and JPY 7,700 for one week (JPY 2,200 per day for JPA-registered lifters and members of Yusuke Suzuki's online salon). Personal training with Yusuke Suzuki is JPY 15,400 for 60 minutes, 19,800 for 90 and 24,200 for 120; a certified trainer is JPY 9,900 for 60 minutes. A rental locker is JPY 1,650 per month.
Q.02Can I visit and look around?
Yes. Both a visit and the free trial can be booked through the enquiry form. The free trial takes about 60 minutes: a short interview, a form check, bench pressing, and a tour of the gym. We will not pressure you to join.
Q.03I am a beginner. Is that a problem?
Yes - beginners are exactly who we want. Learning correct form before habits set in is the safest and fastest route to getting stronger. When staff are on the floor you can ask about form and how to use the equipment.
Q.04Is there parking or bicycle parking?
We have no car park and no bicycle parking. The gym is one minute on foot from the west exit of Kita-Urawa Station on the JR Keihin-Tohoku Line, so coming by train is easiest. Otherwise please use a paid car park nearby, or a bicycle park for bicycles and motorcycles. Please do not leave bicycles in front of the building or on the surrounding streets.
Q.05Is there a shower?
There are no showers. There are separate changing rooms for men and women, and rental lockers. Please plan to change and go.
Q.06What should I bring?
Clothes you can move in, indoor shoes, and something to drink. Drinks are not provided. There are no showers, so bring a towel if you need one.
Q.07Can I rent the studio?
Yes. B.A.D. STUDIO is about 42.24 sqm (26 tatami mats) with four mirrors and room for roughly 10-12 people, and we rent it by the hour (available from October 2026). Rates are JPY 2,300 per hour weekday daytime (Tue-Fri), JPY 2,800 weekday evening (Tue-Fri), JPY 3,000 at weekends and on public holidays, and JPY 1,900 for a fixed weekly slot (weekday daytime, Tue-Fri), tax included. Suitable for yoga, pilates, small-group classes and filming or streaming. Enquiries: [email protected] . See Studio.
Q.08What are the opening hours?
September 2026 is a pre-opening period, so we open on three days only: Monday 14 September 10:00-22:00, Saturday 19 September 10:00-22:00 and Friday 25 September 17:00-19:30. That is the current plan; the latest dates are on Yusuke Suzuki's Instagram (@bodyartdesign). From the grand opening on 1 October 2026: Tuesday to Sunday, 10:00-22:00, closed Mondays. When staff are on the floor you can ask about the equipment or about membership.
Q.09Is there Wi-Fi?
Yes. Throughout the gym, free Wi-Fi is available. Ask at reception for the connection details.
Q.10Where exactly are you?
2F Iwasaki Bldg, 4-1-11 Kita-Urawa, Urawa-ku, Saitama-shi, Saitama 330-0074. One minute on foot from the west exit of Kita-Urawa Station on the JR Keihin-Tohoku Line. See Access.
Q.11What is a bench press gym, and how is it different from a normal gym?
A bench press gym (also called a bench press specialty gym) is a gym whose equipment, coaching and room are all designed around the bench press. Where a general fitness club spreads its budget across cardio and selectorised machines, B.A.D. GYM URAWA is built around three combo racks - one Eleiko IPF-certified and two MBC POWER - and coaches everyone from beginners to competitive lifters with the B.A.D. Method established by bench press world champion Yusuke Suzuki. How to judge a gym is set out in What is a bench press gym.
Q.12Can women train here?
Yes. There are separate changing rooms, and when staff are on the floor you can ask about form and how to use the equipment. In the bench press, technique and body control decide the result more than size or raw strength. Whatever your weight or experience, you can start from correct form.
Q.13Can I train here for a bench press competition?
Yes. You can train on the same Eleiko IPF-certified combo rack used at official meets. There is a drop-in rate for athletes registered with the JPA (Japan Powerlifting Association), and Yusuke Suzuki coaches competition preparation himself in his personal sessions.
Q.14How long does it take to bench 100 kg?
It varies so much between people that we will not promise a timeframe. At B.A.D. GYM URAWA we work in steps, from body control to building records. Start with the free trial (60 minutes, by appointment): we look at your current form and how you use your body, then suggest how to progress.
Q.15I am looking for a bench press gym in Japan. Where is B.A.D. GYM URAWA?
2F Iwasaki Bldg, 4-1-11 Kita-Urawa, Urawa-ku, Saitama-shi - one minute from the west exit of Kita-Urawa Station on the JR Keihin-Tohoku Line. We accept drop-in visitors (one day and one week) from outside the prefecture and from overseas. The coaching follows the same method, supervised by Yusuke Suzuki, as the original BODY ART DESIGN GYM in Matsumoto, Nagano.
Q.16Do staff spot for me?
No. Our staff do not spot. Every bench and squat station has safety racks, so please set them to a height that suits your body before every set. Use the safeties, and ask other members if you want a spot. Staff do not spot. While staff are on the floor their role is reception, safety and first-time orientation. They will gladly talk about your form.
Q.17Can I use chalk?
Loose (powdered) chalk may not be used or brought in. Clear liquid chalk is provided in the gym free of charge; you do not need to buy your own.
